Leading venture capitalists converge at Santa Clara University at 3 p.m. today for "mini-summit" on venture capital investing in Silicon Valley "after the stock market shakeout."
The two-hour event at Mayer Theatre at Santa Clara University is sponsored by SCU's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Approximately 350 invited guests are expected.
Five experienced venture capital professionals will follow a keynote presentation by Irwin Federman, general partner of U.S. Venture Partners, with a panel discussion of venture capital investing trends.
The invitation-only event will open with remarks from Al Bruno, executive director of the SCU Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and will close with remarks from Barry Posner, dean of the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University, and a 5 p.m. hosted reception at the University's Adobe Lodge.
Some topics for the panel will be:
-- How much change is necessary in the public financial markets for late-state venture investments to reappear? -- Has trust been broken between institutional investors and venture capitalists? -- When are cash-heavy funds likely to begin investing again? -- In what ways are investors -- corporate, v.c., angel, institutional -- reacting to the new investing environment? -- What are some new strategies for creating and sustaining value to deliver returns on investment?
