"Compaq has long maintained their market leadership role, especially in the storage arena, due to their focus on quality and reliability," remarked Lawrence Zulch, Dantz CEO. "Retrospect is the natural fit for Compaq's desktop backup systems, and customers will surely benefit from this collaboration."
"Regular backups are the only way to protect against data loss, whether caused by disaster, hardware failure, or simple user error," said Carolyn DiCenzo, chief analyst, Storage Management Software and SAN Appliances, Gartner Group. "By offering systems configured with Retrospect Backup software and a secondary storage device, Compaq is providing customers the tools necessary to safeguard their critical data."
RETROSPECT RELIABILITY
Retrospect employs several key technologies designed to provide 100% restore reliability. IncrementalPLUS(TM) technology provides time- and media-saving backups with the restore precision and reliability of full backups. Restores only require a single operation, even after many new-and-changed-file backups. Retrospect Backup also supports multiple backup sets and keeps each one complete, so only a single set is required to restore the entire computer. True verification confirms that backed-up files exactly match the originals, ensuring their restorability, and Retrospect's bootable CD disaster recovery feature can restore a system completely, even from "bare metal," such as following a destructive virus attack or when a new hard disk drive replaces one of lesser size.
AVAILABILITY
All Compaq business desktops and workstations that ship with an optional CD-RW drive will include Retrospect Express for Compaq in five languages: English, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese. 16X CD-RW drives bundled with the Compaq edition of Retrospect Backup are available directly from Compaq and through authorized distributors worldwide now. VXA Tape drives bundled with the Compaq edition of Retrospect Backup will be available at the end of September, 2001.
