REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2001

Advanced Digital Information Corporation (Nasdaq:ADIC) today announced that its Scalar 100 LTO automated library has received the "Editor's Choice" award from Network News magazine based on that publication's data protection lab tests.

In making its selection, the reviewers highlighted the Scalar 100's leading storage/price ratio and wide range of advanced features, including scalability, web browser management, and storage area network (SAN) support, as factors that separated it from competitive products.

"It is extremely gratifying to receive independent confirmation of what we have known all along -- that the Scalar 100 is the preeminent mid-range tape library on the market today," said Bill Britts, ADIC executive vice president of Sales and Marketing. "The Scalar 100 offers customers industry-leading capacity and performance in a cost-effective device that is optimized for rack environments. It is designed to scale easily so it can grow with customers' data. And it offers the most advanced package of built-in storage networking support of any mid-range library available anywhere. As the Network News reviewers discovered for themselves and our customers have long recognized, the Scalar 100's reliability, fault tolerance, SAN-ready architecture, and intelligent management make deployment and administration easy."

According to the reviewers, the Scalar 100's LTO technology "is clearly the top choice for the best performance." They also found the library's intelligent management tools an important advantage. The built-in Remote Management Unit "allows administrators to remotely control the operator panel, view the LCD screen from a web browser, perform firmware updates and retrieve diagnostic information . . .. Battery backup means the module stays alive in the event of a power failure."

At only 14 rack units, the Scalar 100 LTO is the first tape library to offer 1 TB-per-rack-unit storage density and 650 GB/hour data transfer rate. It also scales easily in the field, growing from a cost-effective one-drive, 18-cartridge library up to 6 drives and 72 cartridges (14.4 TB capacity) without increasing the size of the library or sacrificing performance.
