Sweeney Is A Nationally Recognized Leader in Establishing an
Integrated National Network of Criminal Justice
and Public Safety Information
Tiburon, Inc., a leading provider of public safety and justice information management software systems, proudly announced that Tim Sweeney, who retired in July as the Executive Director of National Law Enforcement Telecommunication Systems, Inc. (NLETS), has joined Tiburon's Board of Directors.
NLETS, controlled and operated by the 50 States, is a message-switching network, linking local, state, and federal agencies, that enables state, local and national criminal justice agencies and public safety agencies to exchange criminal justice and public safety related information. Federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Treasury use the network as well.
The company explained that Mr. Sweeney has years of experience in dealing with public safety and criminal justice agencies at the local, state and national level as well as an intimate understanding of the workings of the mechanisms to exchange information among them. From this background, the company explained, Sweeney is superbly equipped to provide the Board with valuable, sophisticated counsel as it leads its industry in providing automated information solutions for public safety and justice agencies.
Tim Sweeney said, "I have watched Tiburon grow to become an industry leader. I am excited about the opportunity to participate in its business of serving the justice and public safety community. From my vantage point as the Director of NLETS, I have had the opportunity to work on a multitude of standards setting and system development tasks that impact the justice community nationally. I am optimistic that this experience will prove valuable in my new role as a Board member."
Mr. Sweeney joined NLETS in 1974 as Assistant Director and served as its Executive Director for the past 24 years. He has also served as a member of the Attorney General's Global Information Network Advisory Board, the FBI's Security and Access Committee, NCIC Subcommittee, the Global Infrastructure/Standards Subcommittee and many others.
