SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 26, 2001

Solution Addresses Regulatory and Marketing Challenges by Automatically Recognizing the Country of Origin for e-Business Clients

In keeping with its strategy to drive transactional e-business for global financial services companies, Digital Island, a Cable & Wireless company (NYSE:CWP)(LSE:CW), announced today that the Portal Service of Dresdner Private Banking, implemented by Portal Company Limited, deploys its TraceWare(R) service, which provides geographical profiling of Internet content for digital rights and asset management, for Dresdner Bank's international on-line private banking operations. TraceWare allows Dresdner Private Banking to comply with its markets' regulatory and customary differences and eliminates a significant hurdle to e-enabling the business unit.

Digital Island's TraceWare service detects with a great degree of accuracy where a Web query originates so that Dresdner can more effectively target its users around the world and present locally relevant content. Through Digital Island's TraceWare service, Dresdner can add rules for distributing content around the world and target users down to the metropolitan level, saving significant content distribution costs, saving time by avoiding rights conflicts and simplifying licensing negotiations.

"Private banking clients expect to do more on-line, but they are not lowering their expectation of personalized service. TraceWare enables us to respect business rules and speak to clients on their terms, right from the earliest prospecting stage, in an otherwise wide open market," said Dr. Sandro Cassar, head of e-Business for Dresdner Private Banking.

As financial companies seek to leverage the Internet to cost-effectively pursue opportunities outside domestic markets, it is essential that marketing is limited to the geographies for which it has a license to trade. TraceWare resolves this key challenge by providing geo-filtering intelligence, enabling the bank to inform clients outside licensed geographies that an on-line facility is not available to them.

Dresdner Private Banking encompasses locally branded private banking operations outside Germany. The company is deploying TraceWare for an international portal designed to give these operations an on-line venue for building the relationships between high net worth clients and the client relationship manager that handles their portfolio. The portal is currently operating in the United Kingdom and supporting Kleinwort Benson Private Bank, part of Dresdner Private Banking, in their aim to reach the target of 30 to 40 percent of customers using their Portal within the next two years.

The international network of Dresdner Private Banking focuses on high net worth clients in international private banking markets with a clear advice-give strategy. It has established a presence in more than 30 countries. Using TraceWare, Dresdner Private Banking greets prospects with locally branded sites in their own language and appropriate product information to reflect the tax regulations and investment patterns of the applicable market.

A true bricks and clicks operation, the portal site was designed to support the existing business model which gives Dresdner Private Banking clients the option of contacting his or her client relationship manager by telephone, in person or online. The facility greets clients with a customized home page that includes a photo of their client relationship manager and up to date recommendations. Once a customer registers on the site, they are connected to the local database that enables them to view and query their portfolio and product information.

Digital Island's TraceWare recognizes the IP addresses of the service providers from where Internet users are accessing a Web site. This provides an Internet Atlas for companies, identifying the country, regional and city of origin with high accuracy, without asking online visitors to divulge personal details.

"Digital Island has focused its technology and service development in areas that help corporations develop revenue-generating business models on the Internet," said Luk Vandenbrande, managing director, Digital Island Europe. "By enabling companies to know where their online clients and prospects are coming from, they can set business rules and market intelligently to increase sales and revenue."

TraceWare incorporates patent-pending NetAcuity(TM) technology from Digital Envoy.
