SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 2002

Executives from metropolitan area networking pioneer Riverstone Networks (Nasdaq: RSTN) will discuss emerging services in the metro, opportunities and obstacles to implementing 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology, and strategies for unifying different networking topologies during the 2002 Gigabit Ethernet Conference in Santa Clara, Calif. The three-day, multiple track program is scheduled to run April 16-18 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

On Tuesday, April 16, at 8:30 a.m., Riverstone Director of Corporate Marketing Stephen Garrison will participate on the "Internetworking -- Unifying the Networks" panel. The session will examine the issues involved in the successful convergence of different networking topologies and how to achieve a high degree of network reliability and manageability.

Also on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., Garrison will join a discussion on "Implementing 10 Gigabit Ethernet: Are We There Yet?" The track will review the status of 10 Gigabit Ethernet technologies, what service providers are likely to implement 10 Gigabit Ethernet in the near term, and what the future holds for the rapidly emerging technology.

That evening at 7:00 p.m., Riverstone Vice President of Product Marketing and Product Management Ed Chang will participate in a dialogue titled, "The Metro Ethernet Forum and Emerging Metro Services." The panel will discuss the advantages of metro Ethernet for the delivery of voice and data services and will examine metro services, including Internet access, virtual private networks, transparent local area network (LAN), and storage services.

Chang will also join a discussion on "State of the Art Carrier-Class Services" on Wednesday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m. The session will review the recent advances in Ethernet quality of service (QoS) and the cost benefits of Ethernet in the metropolitan area network (MAN).

Gigabit Ethernet is a unifying technology for networking applications in LANs, MANs, and wide area networks (WAN) that enable service providers to create high-speed, long-distance Ethernet links at a competitive cost. IDC and Forrester Research estimate Gigabit Ethernet will grow to a $10.3 billion industry by 2005.

The Gigabit Ethernet Conference (GEC) is the industry's only Ethernet-focused conference and exhibition. Speakers will examine Ethernet from all perspectives, including design, implementation, chips, finance, marketing, and service provider benefits.
