Portal's Infranet Platform Delivers Flexible Billing and Tracking
Foundation For Boingo's Ultra-High Speed Wireless LAN Service for
Business Travelers
Portal Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRSF) today announced that Boingo Wireless, Inc. has implemented Infranet(R), Portal's market leading billing solution for mobile service providers.
Launched in January, Boingo's nationwide wireless service gives business travelers high-speed Internet access through hundreds of "hot spots" in major airports and hotels around the country. Boingo makes it easy for users to locate and connect to public and private Wi-Fi networks, a common standard for wireless broadband Internet access.
Boingo selected Portal because the company's Infranet software platform provides flexibility and accuracy in the tracking and billing of new services and customer usage -- important components to support Boingo's business model. The flexibility of the Portal solution enables Boingo to rapidly respond to market dynamics by developing and delivering promotional offers based on the latest customer usage patterns and competitive offerings.
"Portal helped us launch Boingo rapidly and offer customers several unique pricing plans -- an important feature in the highly competitive wireless market," said Niels Jonker, vice president, engineering, Boingo Wireless. "Infranet has proved to be a strong platform for reliably managing the complex billing and remittance scenarios inherent to a wireless broadband ISP."
Boingo developed its billing infrastructure with the Infranet solution, which allowed the company to create and support multiple service and pricing models, maximizing appeal of the service at launch. The open API architecture of Infranet simplified integration with the other elements of the Boingo technology environment.
"The architecture of our Infranet platform enables Portal to support a wide range of wireless services, including Boingo's innovative reseller model for Wi-Fi services," said Steve Sommer, senior vice president, marketing and business development, Portal Software. "Boingo is dedicated to simplifying wireless Internet access for consumers everywhere, and we are delighted to provide them with one convergent billing platform to achieve this."
