Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) has selected Symantec to protect and manage its extensive IT environment. DISD encompasses 218 schools and is one of the 10 largest school districts in the nation, with nearly 164,000 students and more than 19,000 employees.
Symantec will provide Dallas Independent School District with award-winning antivirus, PC management, and desktop system performance solutions to enhance and secure desktops and servers throughout the 351-square-mile school district. In addition, the company will provide an implementation plan and offer consultant services to enable DISD to effectively deploy and manage security technologies and systems enterprise-wide.
"DISD is dedicated to student success and a progressive learning environment," said Alden Gaw, executive director of Technology Network Services at DISD. "Symantec's outstanding products and exceptional services and support offer the reliability and performance needed to ensure a safe and productive environment for strengthening the overall learning experience of every student at DISD."
Under terms of the agreement, DISD will use Symantec antivirus solutions for proactive automated virus protection to ensure system uptime and user productivity. In addition, DISD will deploy Symantec Ghost, to ease enterprise PC management, user migration, application deployment, and backup and recovery; and Norton Utilities, to provide fast and reliable system optimization, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. These best-of-breed solutions, together with Symantec's world-class services and support, will enable DISD to maximize their IT infrastructure and, in turn, increase the quality of education that students receive. Softmart Government Services, Inc. provided the products to DISD as a vendor of the Texas Cooperative purchasing Network (TCPN).
"By expanding the use of a single security solution throughout their entire desktop network, DISD has taken a major step towards meeting the tremendous logistical challenge of securing such a large computer network," said Gail Hamilton, Symantec executive vice president of Product Delivery and Response. "Our experts in Internet security and desktop and network management will complement Symantec technologies and products to provide a powerful solution for DISD students, faculty, and staff."
Symantec security solutions, including Symantec AntiVirus, offer critical protection for all tiers of a network -- gateway, server, desktop, and handheld. Symantec enterprise administration tools, including Symantec Ghost, provide secure, economical, centralized network management for rolling out thousands of new PCs or migrating existing PCs to new operating systems, reducing total cost of ownership. Symantec small business and consumer products, including Norton Utilities, are the market leader in desktop protection, providing peace of mind with integrated products that work seamlessly to ensure high end-user productivity.
As a Symantec Enterprise Security customer, DISD will receive the technology, global response and services necessary to manage its information security. Symantec's comprehensive solutions offer best-of-breed products such as firewall security, virus protection, intrusion detection, vulnerability management, and virtual private networking (VPN).
