ORINDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 2002
Dantz Development Corporation, a premier provider of backup and restore software, will supply backup software technology for Compaq Computer Corporation's (NYSE:CPQ) new Data Protection Solution initiative. As part of the new program, Dantz will supply its Retrospect(R) Backup software for the SANworks Data Protection Suites for Backup and Restore by Compaq.
The SANworks Data Protection Suites are available in two editions -- one focused on small to mid-size Microsoft Windows customers deploying Compaq StorageWorks tape, and one for automation products in a Direct Attached Storage (DAS) architecture. The suites include Retrospect Backup software plus the SANworks Data Protection Suite for Tape Utilities by Compaq, a set of powerful tape management tools including Tape Storage Management Console (TSMC), DRTape for disaster recovery, StorageWorks Backup Sizing Tool and StorageWorks Product documentation.
According to the agreement between Dantz and Compaq, Compaq will be able to supply and service the entire data protection solution, including hardware, software and global services, through its direct and reseller channels. The new agreement builds on existing partnership activities between the two companies. Compaq currently bundles Retrospect Backup with its desktop computers and workstations equipped with optional CD-RW or VXA tape drives. Retrospect Backup software has also been certified and approved by Compaq under its StorageWorks Value Partner Program, a self-certification initiative that allows software vendors to become approved for use with Compaq StorageWorks data protection products.
"Compaq's initiative recognizes the importance of comprehensive data protection for businesses of all sizes," said Tony Barbagallo, Dantz vice president of marketing. "Retrospect is the perfect software complement for Compaq's direct-attached storage customers, providing a reliable and scalable Data Protection Suite package."
"The SANworks Data Protection Suites for Backup and Restore by Compaq were created to simplify the steps customers must go through in selecting, purchasing and deploying data protection solutions," said Rusty Smith, director of Compaq's Enterprise Nearline Storage Division. "By partnering with Dantz, Compaq not only provides customers with an easy to manage data protection software like Retrospect, but offers them one-stop shopping for their entire data protection infrastructure, including software, hardware, and Compaq Global Services."
Intelligent Backup Technology
Dantz Retrospect Backup makes it easy for companies with or without a dedicated IT staff to manage backups and restores. Retrospect's EasyScript(TM) wizard creates a complete backup strategy based on the answers to a few simple questions. After the first backup, subsequent backups are small and fast, thanks to Dantz's patented progressive backup technology. Restores are efficient and precise, even after multiple progressive backups, and they require only a single read pass over the backup media, allowing any file, folder or entire disk to be restored exactly as it was, with minimal effort.
The Compaq Data Protection Suite is available now. More information on the suites is available at www.compaq.com/products/sanworks/dps-br. More information on Dantz Retrospect Backup is available at www.dantz.com.
