Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE), the leader in network publishing, today announced that Documentum (Nasdaq:DCTM), the leading provider of enterprise content management (ECM), has completed a license agreement with Adobe to include Adobe(R) AlterCast(TM) as a core component of Documentum's ECM Platform.

Documentum customers can now take advantage of Adobe's market-leading image management functionality integrated with Documentum's other content management capabilities for documents, web content, XML, audio and video. The combined solution allows web and print production teams to automate the image production process by connecting content contributors across the enterprise for easy updating of images and graphics.

"Integrating the easy-to-use image management capabilities of AlterCast with Documentum's Media Services product is a critical step in helping customers to easily extend digital asset management to the full range of users in an enterprise," said Whitney Tidmarsh, vice president of product marketing for Documentum. "Many of our customers rely on Adobe's leading content creation tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for their print and web content. With AlterCast, we now have the path to enable our customers to automate the production and repurposing of all of these assets in a low-cost, high productivity environment. The ability to extend these functions to the broadest possible set of users is core to our strategy of deploying ECM enterprise-wide."

Adobe AlterCast, together with the Documentum Media Services product, brings dynamic image and digital asset management capabilities to large-scale publishing applications. The Documentum Media Services product provides intelligent handling of all rich media assets. This includes media-specific indexing, browsing and search capabilities, easy-to-use editing, automated file transformation features, and the ability to fully manage these digital assets with other types of content such as documents, html, and XML.

"Documentum's integration of AlterCast is a significant step in our long-standing relationship of helping customers meet the requirements of managing digital content," said Kumar Vora, vice president, ePaper Solutions Group for Adobe. "We're excited to enable companies to leverage their rich media assets enterprise-wide, while reducing costs associated with repurposing content. We look forward to a growing relationship with Documentum to deliver innovative solutions that will let our customers further accelerate and extend their business processes."

Based on Photoshop(R) and Illustrator(R) technology, AlterCast automatically optimizes files for delivery on any Web-enabled device, including PDAs and cell phones. By streamlining the image production process, AlterCast lets graphics professionals focus on more strategic and complex creative tasks. By using a single image source file to generate multiple iterations, AlterCast helps reduce data storage requirements. It also helps designers generate customized graphics for more effective merchandising on ASP- and JSP-driven Web sites, which translates into more personalized browsing experiences for Web users.
