ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 2002
Integration of SmartPath, SiteMinder Enables
Stronger Identification of Users for Secure e-Business
Authentor Systems Inc., a leading provider of behavior-enhanced authentication systems, today announced it has entered into a technology alliance with Netegrity Inc. (Nasdaq:NETE), the leading provider of solutions for securely managing e-business relationships.
Under the alliance, Authentor will integrate its SmartPath(TM) authentication engine with Netegrity's SiteMinder(R) platform to help e-businesses more precisely identify and track users and strengthen security surrounding protected Web-based transactions.
"Solving the issue of authentication is at the top of nearly every IT-security professional's priority list," said Bob Forbes, Authentor's founder and executive vice president. "The combination of Authentor's and Netegrity's technologies will enable our shared customers to bolster their existing Web-access systems and turn them into powerful, real-time authentication security engines."
SmartPath's authentication engine incorporates usage dynamics, a process based on predictive behavior modeling that the financial sector has used for more than 20 years to detect credit-card fraud. SmartPath determines the appropriate level of authentication for each individual user based on the consistency of his or her behavior, the presence of suspicious behavior and the security policy set by the administrator to match a risk/value profile assigned to a protected resource. With the integration of SmartPath with SiteMinder, Netegrity's customers can transparently strengthen authentication, detect potentially suspicious access, prevent fraudulent access and adapt to new threats to their Web sites.
"The current environment of risk exposure and the vulnerability of network systems has put added pressure on e-businesses to strengthen information-security measures to ensure that both applications and users remain protected," said Peter Lindstrom, research analyst with Hurwitz Group. "Behavior profiling provides enterprises with an added level of security that strengthens authentication methods without the requirement of added costs or administrative burdens."
Netegrity's SiteMinder enables enterprises to centrally manage user-identity and entitlement information and to share this information across all Web applications, greatly reducing the cost and complexity of administering these sites. Its platform of shared services is managed through a rules-based policy engine, which enables administrators to define policies and deliver services such as single sign-on, authentication management, entitlement management and auditing.
"Authentor and Netegrity share a similar vision: secure, yet open access for e-business," said Bill Bartow, vice president and general manager, Access Control and Identity Management Business Unit at Netegrity. "The combination of our technologies enables stronger, more flexible user authentication without the cost of deploying client-side hardware or software."
