MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 8, 2002
Nuance (Nasdaq:NUAN), the global leader in software for a voice-driven world, today announced that Brazil's largest private-sector bank, Banco Bradesco, has chosen Nuance's advanced voice authentication software, Nuance Verifier(TM), to increase the security of its phone-based banking services. Known as Fone Facil, this voice-driven customer service application enables Banco Bradesco's more than 15 million customers to securely check bank balances, make transactions, pay bills and transfer funds via the phone.
"Security is a key issue for Banco Bradesco, since we process more than $420 million worth of telephone transactions every month," said Marcos Bader, director for Banco Bradesco. "Nuance Verifier is helping us to achieve the security we need, combined with unparalleled customer convenience."
Nuance Verifier uses individual voiceprints -- a physical trait that is as unique as a fingerprint -- to safeguard information access. Yet, unlike other biometrics, including fingerprinting and facial scans, voiceprints provide a high-level of security without the use of special devices. Instead of expensive high-resolution cameras and scanners, voiceprints can be captured and used via an ordinary telephone to safeguard sensitive computer data, making it one of the most attractive and effective biometrics in the market today.
In the case of Banco Bradesco, once customers enroll their voiceprints, the Nuance Verifier-based system authenticates the caller's identity every time he or she calls to request account status information, make payments and move funds to other accounts.
The system was developed by Nuance and its partner GMK Eletronica Ltda., a leading provider of telephony and IVR platforms to the financial services industry in Brazil.
