Trend Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq:TMIC; TSE:4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, today announced availability of Trend Micro PortalProtect(TM) for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server, an enterprise level solution designed to protect enterprise information portals (EIP) from viruses and other malicious code.
Enterprises are expected to increasingly implement EIPs due to the productivity advantage inherent with collaborative systems, such as document management, file sharing and email. Trend Micro PortalProtect for SharePoint Portal Server was developed to combat viruses that might be spread when sharing files using the new EIP platform. Trend Micro has tightly integrated its award winning scan engine technology into Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server to deliver the highest reliability security solution for the burgeoning EIP market place. The product incorporates Microsoft's open Antivirus API, which Trend Micro collaborated with Microsoft in designing.
"Security continues to be a number one priority for Microsoft, and we are pleased with the collaborative development efforts to create Trend Micro PortalProtect for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server," said Gytis Barzdukas, group product manager for the Portal Business Group at Microsoft Corporation. "With the increase in new viruses targeting portals, SharePoint Portal Server customers are now prepared with premium antivirus software protection to meet their security needs. Trend Micro continues to prove its innovation through developing robust enterprise level antivirus solutions."
PortalProtect is designed to shield enterprises from potential threats by scanning and cleaning in real-time any viruses entering or residing in files in SharePoint Portal Server's Document Store. Additionally, during a virus outbreak, its file blocking capability temporarily blocks all file types identified as potential threats. To further enhance the manageability of Trend Micro PortalProtect for SharePoint Portal Server, Trend Micro has developed an intuitive web-based management console and built in automatic virus definition update mechanisms. These features provide administrators secure, convenient access to configuration, reports, logs and customized notifications as well as the ability to automatically search for and download the latest files.
"Trend Micro is dedicated to providing our customers with complete antivirus protection at every layer in the enterprise. We are pleased to be working with Microsoft to deliver to our joint customers an antivirus solution for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server," said Alvin Graylin, Product Group Manager for Trend Micro. "PortalProtect is designed to provide them with content security fully integrated with SharePoint Portal Server ensuring peace of mind in using this valuable enterprise collaboration platform."
