Six Flags Theme Parks in 2002
Six Flags, Inc. (NYSE:PKS) and The Chupa Chups Group, maker of the world famous Chupa Chups lollipops, announced today a marketing sponsorship agreement under which the company's candies and lollipops will be offered at Six Flags United States parks and properties this year along with ride and section branding opportunities within the parks.
"We are thrilled to enter into a marketing and promotional alliance with The Chupa Chups Group," said Kieran Burke, Six Flags' chairman and chief executive officer. "This agreement is appealing by virtue of the fact both companies enjoy an established strong presence in the all-important teen and young adult markets. As a result, considerable opportunities exist to broaden the reach in these two demographic segments and drive incremental attendance at our Six Flags parks through the cross-pollination of promotional programs."
As one of the leading confectionaries in the world, The Chupa Chups Group markets more than 40 different flavors of its Chupa Chups lollipops in over 170 countries. In addition, the company's diversified product portfolio includes various flavors of sugar free mints called Smint and a line of novelty and interactive confectionery called Crazy Planet.
"We are also pleased to align our company and products with a quality brand like Six Flags," said Jordi Ferre, vice president of marketing, Atlanta based Chupa Chups USA. "Six Flags represents a strong addition to our growing cooperative commercial strategic alliances which now includes name-brands like M&M. No doubt, Six Flags' global reach, market dominance and over 40 million annual guest visits provide us a unique opportunity to strengthen our leadership position in our category while introducing our products to millions of new potential consumers."
As part of the marketing agreement, The Chupa Chups Group will extend its product branding strategy through ride and section sponsorships. Joint promotional contests throughout the season will offer consumers opportunities to win free tickets to Six Flags parks found in multi-packs of Chupa Chups products, which will help to move product and drive attendance at the parks.
The marketing agreement will also give Chupa Chups a broader park presence through the Six Flags in-park television system plus visibility on the Six Flags website (www.sixflag.com) and the Six Flags park guides. Six Flags parks will sell a variety of Chupa Chups' products including Crazy Dips, Pop Rocks, Whistles Pops and Smint Mints.
Financial details of the multiple-year sponsorship were not disclosed.
