Integrated Visual Debugger Designed to Increase Productivity and
Shorten Development Cycle for Intel XScale Technology Based
Development Projects
Metrowerks, a leading provider of development tools and services for the wireless market, is adding support for the Intel(R) XScale(TM) technology in its CodeWarrior(TM) Development Tools for ARM(R) Embedded Systems.
Version 1.2 of CodeWarrior Development Tools for ARM Embedded Systems, which begins shipping this month, will enable embedded software developers and device manufacturers to visually debug ARM processors based on Intel XScale technology, including the Intel PXA250 and Intel PXA210 processors, Intel's next generation processors for wireless devices.
The visual debugging capability is designed to enhance ease-of-use compared to traditional command-line tools. Metrowerks' ARM tools are being demonstrated this week at the ARM Partner Meeting in Cambridge, UK.
"Embedded software developers demand well-integrated development environments that allow them to be productive and get their products to market as fast as possible," said John Smolucha, vice president of marketing, Metrowerks. "By providing a visual debugging environment for Intel processors inside a tightly integrated development tools suite, we're taking our customers to the next level of productivity. We've been building debuggers for more than 10 years, and our debugging integration is exceptional."
According to a March 2002 report published by research firm Gartner Dataquest, Metrowerks' CodeWarrior compiler and debugger are ranked number one in usage among commercially available software development tools products.
Metrowerks' development tools for ARM processors, first released in March 2002, enable developers to create a range of applications for ARM devices, including 2.5G and 3G mobile phones, as well as most handheld computers.
The CodeWarrior development and debugging environment is the only fully integrated development tool suite on the market that can address the entire spectrum of pre- to post-platform development - from board bring-up, to operating system development, to application development. This makes it possible for the same tool chain to be used by the device manufacturer to build the consumer product, by the platform vendor to build the operating system environment, and by the application development community to create content for the platform.
