REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 14, 2002

Prepare for battle! Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS) today announced the release of the first multiplayer demo for its WWII first-person action game, Battlefield 1942(TM). The demo, featuring the battle of Wake Island, is set for release on Friday, August 16. The demo will support up to 16 gamers playing as either Japanese or American forces struggling to invade or defend Wake Island.

In Battlefield 1942 for the PC, players are given the power and tools to affect the outcomes of key battles of WWII in a massive online battlefield. With the ability to control 35 authentic Axis and Allied vehicles from a first-person perspective and select from five player classes, they are faced with incredible choices in their plan of action. Among a vast array of available options, players can choose to heroically storm or defend the beaches of Normandy, direct artillery or command a tank at Kursk, pilot a fighter or operate a shore battery at Midway, command an aircraft carrier or general purpose vehicle at Gaudalcanal, and take charge of a bomber or an Armored Personnel Carrier in El Alemain -- experiencing some of the most dramatic moments of WWII. The multiplayer-focused PC version will be available later this summer.
