SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 19, 2002
Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE:FCS) today announced that Samsung Electro Mechanics has selected their ML4824 power factor correction (PFC)/pulse width modulation (PWM) controller combo IC.
One of the largest switch mode power supply (SMPS) manufacturers in Korea, Samsung Electro Mechanics will use the Fairchild PFC controller in new SMPS designs targeted for plasma display panel and high-power PC applications. The selection was based on the product's superior performance and quality and Fairchild's history of excellent customer service.
"Fairchild's ML4824 has enabled Samsung Electro Mechanics to extend its leadership in SMPS designs," said Hyoungjun Kim, purchasing manager for Samsung, "by providing us with the highest performance product at a competitive price point."
As a market leader in power factor correction solutions, Fairchild's broad portfolio of PFC and PFC/PWM combo chips for low, medium and high-power supplies addresses such applications as servers, routers, power supplies, telecom switching equipment, plasma display panels and HDTV.
With an integrated pulse width modulation controller, the ML4824 facilitates the use of small, low-cost bulk capacitors in SMPS designs. Additional benefits include the ability to reduce power line loading and stress on the switching FETs, and to achieve power supply designs that fully comply with the IEC1000-3-2 specification.
"We are pleased that Samsung Electro Mechanics selected Fairchild's power factor correction IC for their latest generation of SMPS designs," said HK Kim, Fairchild's senior marketing manager for the Korean region. "We look forward to expanding our business relationship by providing them with the most technologically advanced, cost effective products and outstanding service."
