MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 2002
Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC) today announced the Site Redundancy feature for its VXi(TM) media gateway controller (MGC) family.
The feature, unique in the softswitch industry, provides a new level of reliability for packet-based networks. It enables the two redundant hosts in the VXi softswitch to be located in different geographic locations, allowing carriers to avoid network failure.
Paul Miller, vice president, Packet Telephony, Tekelec, commented, "This feature brings a new level of resiliency and reliability to the packet-telephony industry. The ability to physically separate the hosts in different locations ensures the integrity of the call process. This feature goes well beyond having a cold standby switch. In the event that a disaster strikes one of the remote node sites, the standby host at the second location automatically and seamlessly takes over the active call processing."
The remote hosts appear as a single point code to the signaling system 7 (SS7) network, which conserves number resources and simplifies administration and routing. The databases are regularly synchronized at multiple points in the call flow, which preserves all calls in process. Additionally, provisioning changes, measurements, and call detail records also are maintained through the regular synchronization.
The VXi MGC family meets the stringent requirements of the public carrier networks for interconnectivity, capacity, reliability, scalability, and voice quality. For seamless integration into legacy systems, Tekelec's softswitch provides precise control over voice-associated resources, call processing capabilities, and SS7 interfaces to the public switched telephone network. It delivers a variety of wireless and wireline applications, including Packet Tandem, Internet Offload, IP Centrex, and MSC Gateway.
