Delta Agent Brings a Cost-effective and Easy-to-Use
Solution to Move Data Across the Enterprise
Embarcadero Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:EMBT), a leading provider of application and database lifecycle management solutions, today announced Delta Agent(TM), a module for DT/Studio(TM), the company's Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) application. Delta Agent enables companies to leverage real-time data integration across transactional systems. In addition, the new release of DT/Studio includes new features such as enhanced operating speed, a debugger and an XML reader for Web services.
Embarcadero Technologies' Delta Agent is the first real-time ETL application to go beyond transaction data to get a complete picture of all changed data in an enterprise. Most solutions look solely at message queues to pull data, making real-time data integration possible for only certain tables or databases that are already set up. In contrast, Delta Agent looks at the changed records in the database through the databases' own transaction logs. By operating at the database level, not just message queues, Delta Agent maintains transactional integrity as data is moved across systems. Furthermore, DT/Studio provides cost-savings by eliminating the need for customers to purchase expensive enterprise application integration (EAI) tools to push the data into the message queues.
In addition to real-time data integration, DT/Studio 1.8 and Delta Agent offer enhanced reporting capabilities. Reports created in DT/Studio contain both the details and the summaries of the business rules used to extract, transform and load the data, as well as runtime statistics. These reports can now be formatted as HTML, XML or RTF documents making it easy for integration with third party business intelligence (BI) tools.
"As initiatives such as business activity monitoring and real-time analytics begin to increase in importance for more companies, dealing with the data requirements in a high performance and cost-effective manner will be a critical success factor," said Ted Friedman, senior analyst at Gartner.
"The introduction of Delta Agent re-affirms Embarcadero Technologies' commitment to providing easy-to-use tools at an accessible price," said Stephen Aikins, product manager for DT/Studio. "By building our ETL tools on Java, we have been able to rapidly increase functionality and usability without sacrificing speed or performance."
New features
-- Change data capture -- Focus on only the data that has changed since the last time the ETL task was run, reducing the data loads and elapsed time for the data movement process. -- Debugger -- Browse the data at any point between transformers. The graphical debugger interface allows users to specify any transformer as a breakpoint and view the data streaming between those transformers in watch windows. -- XML Reader -- Extract data from XML files. This feature is in addition to the enhancements to the existing readers that allow wildcarding and directory browsing at runtime. -- Increased ease-of-use -- New wizards and dialogs assist with some of the more common tasks such as the creation of pre-populated timestamp fields and sequences. -- Reporting features -- Generate runtime reports in HTML or XML format from the engine meta data.

About DT/Studio
DT/Studio is an ETL solution that is both easy-to-use and affordable. DT/Studio allows users to effortlessly move and operate on data from multiple sources to any target location or application with three simple steps. First, DT/Studio reverse-engineers the existing operational data, aided through a seamless integration with Embarcadero Technologies' data modeling tool ER/Studio(R). Once the architecture of the data is established, DT/Studio transforms the data from the original source into the data format established by the user. DT/Studio then populates the target repository or application at the optimum speed required, preventing interruption in enterprise workflow with the operational data.
