Chugoku Information System Service Introduces "MEGA EGG"

Fiber-to-the-Home Services

Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a leading provider of trusted infrastructures for the New Public Network, and Chugoku Information System Service Co., Inc. (CIS), today announced the deployment of Juniper Networks ERX Edge Routers in the CIS "MEGA Energia Global Gateway (EGG)" Metro Ethernet network. The ERX router enables CIS, the telecommunication arm of Chugoku Electric Power, to deliver high-speed Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) services to its residential customers throughout the Chugoku region.

According to IDC Japan, Japanese FTTH subscriptions are expected to achieve a cumulative annual growth rate of 166 percent by the end of 2005. CIS plans to leverage the increased demand by offering Ethernet-based broadband connectivity to its subscribers at speeds of 100Mbps.

"Our mission is to be one of the leading FTTH providers in Japan by attracting subscribers with low cost and reliable high-speed Internet services," said Mr. Norimitsu Kawakami, manager, Telecommunication Business Unit, CIS. "The Juniper Networks ERX Edge Router provides a unique ability to deliver IP routing, IP service creation, and subscriber management in a single platform - all at wire-speed performance. This deployment enables us to leverage Juniper Networks expertise and excellent track record in the Japanese broadband market, while also staying ahead of the competition."

"Our ERX Edge Routers provide Chugoku Information System Service with a reliable and scalable platform that is optimized for the network edge," said Adam Judd, vice president, Asia Pacific, Juniper Networks. "CIS is now able to deliver revenue generating services to its growing customer base and capitalize on the increasing demand throughout Japan for innovative IP services."
