Streaming Media East 2002

DARIEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 2002

Penton Media today announced details of its updated conference program for the 4th annual Streaming Media East 2002 Conference and Exposition, to be held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York from September 30 to October 4.

Co-located with Internet World Fall 2002, the event is designed to provide business and media professionals with the opportunity to get an update on the streaming business, to see and hear the latest products and services, and to network with builders and streamers who are sending audio and video down the wire.

"According to a recent Arbitron study, we've only just passed the 50% mark in the streaming business: 52% of online Americans -- about 78 million people -- have streamed audio or video on the Internet," said Megan Forrester, Senior Vice President, Penton Media. "This illustrates the growth potential for streaming in the consumer sector, and when coupled with increasing adoption in the enterprise, it's clear that a huge opportunity exists for the industry. With that in mind, Streaming Media East will provide attendees with all the tools, tips, techniques and technology required to deliver the benefits of streaming to every desktop, whether in the home or workplace."

To accomplish this, Penton Media has organized the Streaming Media East conference program into various tracks targeted to specific functions within the enterprise:

Webmaster's Track - Focusing on technology, attendees will get an update on the latest codecs, the newest multimedia players, and the best content delivery options. Sessions will highlight best practices in capturing, editing and managing digital video, as well as how to assemble a live Webcast. This track also features the MPEG-4 Forum, which will provide an analysis of this developing standard and review how it's affecting online video.

Enterprise Track - These expanded sessions will focus on the wide range of issues in business streaming, such as how to stream marketing and product launches, develop online meetings, and manage digital assets. Attendees will learn how pioneering enterprise users -- McDonald's, Reuters, Yahoo and others -- have used online audio and video with great results.

Media and Entertainment Track -- Information-packed sessions will bring conferees up-to-date on successful online media business models, cable and broadband developments, digital music and the radio industry. And, a new tutorial and roundtable on Pervasive Video -- TV in cars, on pocket computers, store signs, ATMs, mobile phones and vending machines as well as desktops -- will provide a peek at the next ten years in digital video developments.

In addition to these structured tracks, the event will offer educational sessions focused on other streaming related topics, such as the Internet Advertising Forum - in which attendees will explore rich media advertising, metrics and measurement and new online creative trends. A new Open Source segment will offer details about Ogg Vorbis, Real Network's Helix and other licensing and royalty developments. And, the event will reprise favorite Streaming Media sessions like the "Beginner's Seminar," "Tips on Hardware and Software," and "Streaming on a Shoestring."

The Streaming Media East conference faculty is comprised of thought-leaders who have developed and implemented numerous successful streaming initiatives, including:
