International Rectifier Introduces 600V and 500V Power MOSFETs That Increase Efficiency in Telecom and Datacom Power Systems

International Rectifier, IR(R) (NYSE:IRF), introduces the new 600V K-Series HEXFET(R) power MOSFETs that have 45% lower on-resistance and can handle 75% more current in the TO-247 package compared to previous generation devices. The new MOSFETs are designed for switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) rated at 300W and above used in telecom and datacom systems. In addition, IR is expanding its offering of 500V K-Series MOSFETs for the same applications.

The two voltage ranges and the expanded selection of current and on-resistance levels enable designers to meet the cost and performance objectives of most designs. While the 600V-rated devices offer the added safety margins required by some designs, the 500V devices provide an opportunity to increase efficiency at a lower cost.

The new K-Series devices increase efficiency, output power and power density compared to previous generation devices, reducing the number of devices and shrinking heatsinks.

Higher efficiency translates into lower temperature and increased reliability, a significant factor in telecom and datacom systems.

The new K-Series MOSFETs have up to four times higher dV/dt immunity than previous generation devices and offer better ruggedness. Low gate charge makes the new devices easy to drive.

The new hard-switched MOSFETs are available immediately. Pricing begins at US $1.96 each for the 600V devices, and US $1.39 each for the 500V devices, in 10,000-unit quantities.
