Business Wire, August 30, 2002
Business and Technology Editors
LONDON & ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 30, 2002
- Expands Cablevision's options for fast, secure rollouts of
interactive services
Related to the recent announcement to provide digital technology, products and services to Cablevision Systems Corporation, Scientific-Atlanta and NDS Group plc announced that they will co-operate to implement NDS's Open VideoGuard(TM) conditional access (CA) technology into Explorer(R) digital interactive set-tops that will be provided to Cablevision.
Under the terms of a non-binding Letter of Intent, initial plans call for the integration of NDS's OpenVideo Guard conditional access technology on the Scientific-Atlanta set-tops that will be shipped to Cablevision. Integration and testing is expected to be completed in approximately 90 days. The parties also have the ability to extend the relationship to additional markets by mutual agreement.
"Our goal is to enable Cablevision to quickly generate maximum revenue from their existing networks and not have to create a fully parallel infrastructure," said Michael Harney, president of Scientific-Atlanta's subscriber networks business. "The integration of NDS's Open VideoGuard conditional access technology into our set-tops will do just that. Accomplishing this integration in a short time-frame will demonstrate the strengths and flexibility of our digital network solution."
"We've joined with Scientific-Atlanta to enable Cablevision to protect its valuable programming while accelerating the deployment of digital interactive services via Explorer set-tops," said Jas Saini, vice president consumer devices, NDS Group plc. "By delivering vital technology and products to Cablevision, both companies are helping provide new opportunities for Cablevision to expand the digital footprint across its service area."
