TBS Superstation Selects 21 Georgia Students for PSA Campaign Celebrating GREAT AMERICAN MOMENTS

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 2002

TBS Superstation will begin its celebration of American achievement during Black History Month by highlighting 21 influential Americans from diverse cultural backgrounds.

GREAT AMERICAN MOMENTS, now in its third year on the Superstation, features students (ages 7-18) profiling such influential Americans as Sojourner Truth, Helen Keller, Hank Aaron, John Glenn and Maya Lin. The :30 PSAs, to be filmed at Turner Studios later this month, will air throughout 2003, beginning Saturday, Feb. 1. They will appear locally on TBS17 and as streaming video clips online at TBS17.com.

"This initiative is a wonderful opportunity to present the stories of some of America's greatest achievers," said Myrna Moore, director of TBS Public Affairs and producer of GREAT AMERICAN MOMENTS. The following students have been chosen as GREAT AMERICAN MOMENTS presenters, honoring American icons who have made significant contributions to the U.S. in the arts, technology, science and civil rights:

    Courtney Lankford - Parkview High School - Gwinnett County
    Hoai Le - J.E. Richards Middle School - Gwinnett County
    Amy Libby - Bill Arp Elementary - Douglas County
    Alan Lugo - McIntosh High School - Fayette County
    DeMarcus Mayo - Redan High School - Dekalb County
    Meagan Morris - Salem Middle School - Dekalb County

These 21 presenters were chosen from almost 500 student auditions submitted by 112 Metro-Atlanta schools. Each presenting student's school received a $250 donation to be put toward educational programs and equipment.
