PORTSMOUTH, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 2002

Bowstreet, a pioneer in adaptive Web applications, today announced the availability of Bowstreet(TM) Portlet Factory (BPF) 5.5, offering deeper integration with IBM WebSphere (R), increased automation, and enhanced Web services interoperability to further speed the development of highly adaptive portlets for the IBM WebSphere Portal environment.

BPF 5.5 includes integration with the WebSphere Studio family of products, and even greater levels of automation for developing highly customized, dynamic portlets through a new Portlet Wizard and new Builders. New features include:

-- Portlet Wizard to help developers leverage J2EE technology to rapidly create custom portlets from data sources and legacy applications.

-- Builders for database, JMS, and page automation, empowering developers to create custom portlets that leverage technologies such as JDBC, JNDI, JSP, and JMS, requiring only a high-level conceptual understanding of these technologies. From one schema, developers can generate an entire HTML form, complete with the appropriate UI controls, field-level validation, and labels that can easily be internationalized.

-- Enhanced functionality for creating and consuming web services based on Bowstreet's active participation in the Web Services Interoperability (WS-I) Organization.

"This announcement significantly helps the programmer community rapidly generate rich, customized portlets and is extremely complementary to IBM's Portal offering," stated Larry Bowden, Vice President, IBM Portals Solutions Software Group. "The new integration with WebSphere Studio further increases the productivity of development teams by providing powerful tools for the creation of highly adaptive portlets for WebSphere Portal, accessible from within the WebSphere Studio IDE."

As enterprise portals continue to mature, companies are looking for ways to reduce the time, effort, and cost of building and maintaining custom portal applications. The seamless integration of BPF with IBM WebSphere enables development teams to quickly build highly adaptive portlets that leverage all of the strengths of the J2EE platform.

"Enterprises are demanding robust customization capabilities to rapidly create and maintain portlets that can adapt to their business requirements," said Michael George, CEO, Bowstreet. "The new functionality and integration offered in BPF 5.5 offers WebSphere Portal customers even greater return on their investments through the ability to easily create highly customized, dynamic portlets as a seamless extension of the IBM platform."

BPF 5.5 represents Bowstreet's continued commitment to apply its innovative automation technology to dramatically reduce the costs and time-to-market of application development, enabling customers' to harness the full power of their existing J2EE infrastructure.
