HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 2002
SAVVIS Communications (NASDAQ:SVVS), a global managed IP services provider, today announced it will provide fully managed hosting services to Berkshire Hathaway-owned retailer Jordan's Furniture.
Under the two-year agreement, SAVVIS' Intelligent Hosting(SM) solution will provide the Avon, Massachusetts-based retail institution with the seamless reliability it requires to guarantee that its customers have 24/7/365, high-speed access to its elaborate, but always easy-to-use customer Web site.
SAVVIS was selected for its ability to deploy a high performance, fully managed hosting service quickly and efficiently. "First and foremost, we want people to visit the stores to see the beautiful displays, get design tips and be entertained, but we also understand the importance of using the Web to provide a first-rate research tool," said Peter Clark, Jordan's Furniture Director of Information Technology. "SAVVIS' ability to deliver high performance managed hosting, along with its proven track record in providing quality service and overall systems support, made it the clear choice."
The Jordan's site -- www.jordans.com -- provides customers with the opportunity to browse hundreds of home furnishings under its bedroom, living room, dining room, dinette, kids room, entertainment and home office categories, with subsets in contemporary, traditional, country styles. Content on the site includes product photos, specifications, available colors and customization options, design tips, and order status. The site also contains information about the various forms of entertainment at certain locations including the Motion Odyssey Movie ride and the newly opened AT&T Broadband IMAX 3-D Theater.
"As a New England retailing institution for more than 80 years, Jordan's Furniture has earned its outstanding reputation by providing its customers with a clear view and easy access to its products. Upholding that tradition today means having a quality Web presence that guarantees visitors will always have access to the information they are seeking on Jordan's line of home furnishings," said Brad Hokamp, SAVVIS Executive Vice President of Product Management and Sales. "We're pleased Jordan's has entrusted SAVVIS with its Web presence and we look forward to supporting their outstanding customer commitment going forward."
About Jordan's Furniture
Jordan's Furniture was incorporated in 1928 by Samuel Tatelman in Waltham, MA. In the early 70's, Barry and Eliot Tatelman took over the business, bringing it from a company of eight employees to now over 1200. Barry and Eliot sold the company to Berkshire Hathaway Inc. in October 1999. One of the most unique aspects of Jordan's Furniture is the incorporation of entertainment within the stores. The Avon location houses a 48-seat flight-simulator movie theatre called the Motion Odyssey Movie ride, or M.O.M., shown on a 4-story high movie screen. In the Natick store, customers walk onto "Bourbon Street", complete with a Riverboat, a "Streetcar Named Dessert", beads, full-scale French building facades, and a 9-minute multimedia Mardi Gras F/X show. Jordan's took entertainment to a new level by opening a 262-seat, 6 story-high screen, 3D theater inside their store. The AT&T Broadband IMAX 3D theater features both educational and entertainment-based films.
