StealthWatch IDS Provides Information Security for Network
Operations Center of 88th Annual RSNA Conference
Lancope Inc., the provider of advanced threat management solutions for enterprise networks, today announced that it was selected to provide information security for the network operations center of the Radiological Society of North America's (RSNA) 88th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, where it identified, protected against and traced the source of denial-of-service (DoS) attacks.
Held in Chicago from December 1-6, 2002, RSNA hosts the world's largest international medical conference and brings together nearly 60,000 attendees from around the world.
Deployed at critical segments of the RSNA conference network, StealthWatch by Lancope, the award-winning Intrusion Detection System (IDS), identified multiple stations within the network that were compromised previously and were launching DoS attacks. StealthWatch alerted network administrators about the attacks and through forensic data analysis, enabled them to trace the origin of the attack to Denmark.
"StealthWatch by Lancope was selected for its robust behavior-based intrusion detection that not only protects against known attacks, but also against undocumented attacks and internal misuse," said Rick Smith, Chief Technology Officer of iNOC, which provides network design, installation and management services for the conference. "Given the sheer magnitude of attendees, the confidentiality of data and the anticipated wireless, network and Internet traffic, information security is a top priority for RSNA."
According to Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope, "Protecting RSNA's highly visible network gives Lancope the opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of the StealthWatch solution. Our behavior-based IDS appliance excels in this unknown and uncharted environment."
