NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 2002
Kroll Background America Inc., a leader in integrity screening and a subsidiary of Kroll Inc. (Nasdaq: KROL), the global risk consulting company, announced today that it has been engaged by Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE:R) to manage a comprehensive pre-employment screening program for all of Ryder's U.S. operations.
Ryder, a global leader in supply chain and transportation management solutions, is expected to conduct background checks on more than 11,000 prospective employees through the program in 2002.
"Ryder is a recognized industry leader in the area of safety," said Greg Greene, Ryder's senior vice president of Global Talent. "The expertise and extensive resources of the Kroll organization further enhance our Company's ability to efficiently manage an effective enterprise-wide program for verifying the credentials and credibility of all new employees."
The Kroll program includes searches for county, state and federal criminal records; verification of education and academic credentials; and where appropriate, review of Department of Transportation (DOT) and non-DOT employment history. To ensure the timeliness and privacy of information, the process is totally automated, utilizing proprietary Kroll software and Ryder-customized databases. Managers in Ryder's recruiting centers access a password-protected web site which enables them to input data on applicants, monitor submitted requests, retrieve results and order reports based on diverse criteria.
"This initiative was under development long before September 11 focused global attention on corporate security issues. It was driven by Ryder's long-standing commitment to workplace safety and ensuring employee and customer security and well-being," said Michael D. Shmerling, chief operating officer of Kroll Inc. and head of its Corporate Services Group.
"The scope and the breadth of Ryder's program make it a standard-setter in employee screening, not only for the transportation industry, but for all corporate employers," he added.
