WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 2002
Terra Lycos (NASDAQ: TRLY), the largest global Internet network, today announced the following information from The Lycos 50(TM), the 50 most popular user searches for the week ending February 9, 2002. For a complete list of The Lycos 50(TM) and for in-depth text of The Lycos 50 Daily Report, go to http://50.lycos.com.
The Lycos 50(TM) Top 10 Search Terms for the Week Ending February 9, 2002:
1) Super Bowl Commercials 6) The IRS 2) Chu Mei-Feng 7) Britney Spears 3) The Olympics 8) Morpheus 4) Dragonball 9) Taxes 5) Valentine's Day 10) Super Bowl
Notes of Interest:
Super Bowl commercials finished number one on The Lycos 50 for the first time ever, knocking the Chu Mei-Feng (#2) sex scandal out of the top spot. Meanwhile, mlife (#16) the inscrutable new slogan for AT&T Wireless, stirred plenty of online interest as Web users searched for the meaning behind what mlife is all about. The Olympics (#3) also entered the top 10 this week. The most searched for Olympic athletes include 1) Michelle Kwan; 2) Picabo Street; 3) Sasha Cohen; 4) Apolo Ohno; 5) Mario Lemieux; 6) Bode Miller; 7) Sarah Hughes; 8) Alexei Yagudin; 9) Jonny Moseley and 10) Eric Lindros.
Face Off:
A well-known newswoman appears on The Lycos 50 this week as news junkies flocked to the Web to find the new face of Greta Van Susteren (#41). Van Susteren left CNN and reappeared at Fox News last week with a new show and a new look. Almost half the search requests asked simply for Greta or Greta Van.
Patriot Games:
The upset champion New England Patriots (#40) became the first NFL team to ever make The Lycos 50. The Super Bowl itself hit number 10 on this list. Meanwhile, NBC's counter-programming effort, a special Playboy Playmate edition of the reality show Fear Factor, also sparked a good deal of online attention. Although it did not make the list, Fear Factor queries tripled. While none of the Playmates made The Lycos 50, Stacy Sanches came close, finishing at number 66.
