MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2002
Fifth Consecutive Quarter In Excess of Two Million Deployments
OpenTV (Nasdaq:OPTV) (Euronext Amsterdam:OPTV), the world's leading interactive television company, today announced that based on reports received to date its middleware was installed in 2.8 million set-top boxes (STBs) during the fourth quarter of 2001, bringing its industry-leading cumulative deployments to more than 23.5 million as of December 31, 2001.
"With our fifth consecutive quarter in excess of two million deployments, OpenTV continues to deploy more iTV core platform technology per quarter than many of our competitors have deployed in their entire history," said OpenTV Chief Executive Officer James Ackerman. The 23.5 million cumulative STBs deployed as of December 31, 2001 is a 70 percent increase from 13.9 million STBs deployed as of December 31, 2000. Major network operator contributors to fourth quarter deployments included EchoStar in the United States, BskyB in the United Kingdom, Sky New Zealand, and DIRECTV Latin America.
