WILSONVILLE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 2002
InFocus(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:INFS)(OSE:IFC), the worldwide leader in digital projection, has been selected to equip Ohio's Cleveland school district with hundreds of digital projectors as part of a $1.3 million state-funded education grant. The project was created to incorporate multimedia technology into classrooms, bringing a more dynamic and effective learning experience to students.
Led by WVIZ/PBS, a PBS television station in Cleveland, the project includes the distribution of multimedia carts to each of the district's 136 schools. Each cart will feature an InFocus projector, a television, a DVD player and a VCR. WVIZ/PBS and contracted educators will work together to train teachers how to use the equipment and utilize the multimedia technology to make learning more fun and effective for students.
WVIZ/PBS selected the InFocus LP(R)630, a user-friendly meeting room projector that features a monitor loop-through system and full-feature remote, ensuring that teachers and guest speakers will never have to turn their backs to their students when they present a lesson or speech. The LP630 creates large, clear images, making note-taking easy, and it can also connect simultaneously to multiple media sources, enabling presenters to easily incorporate Web, video and photo displays.
"By bringing multimedia technology into the classroom, teachers are able to make their lessons more engaging to students," said Dr. L. Neil Johnson, senior director of educational services at WVIZ/PBS. "We selected InFocus projectors for this project because they deliver clear, exceptionally bright, color-rich images, and they are easy to install. Teachers will appreciate the projectors because they are also easy to use."
"Use of dynamic visuals has been found to improve learning by up to 400 percent. As the education sector continues to evolve, digital projectors are being recognized as a powerful and imaginative collaborative learning tool," said Bill Yavorsky, senior vice president and general manager, Americas, InFocus Corporation. "InFocus is proud to participate in this program, which will help keep students both informed and inspired."
The multimedia carts will be completely assembled and shipped to the schools by the end of March 2002.
