Persistence Distributed Data Management Software Enables CIOs and

IT Managers To Meet Database Software Needs At Reduced Costs

Persistence(R) Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRSW), the leading software provider of distributed data management software technology, today announced that the company is uniquely positioned to address one of the IT communities top technology priorities for 2002, as outlined in a recent study conducted by the Aberdeen Group entitled, Technology Forecasting Consortium: 2002 User Buyer Intentions. During the course of the study conducted by Aberdeen Group, it was determined that one of the top five technology investment priorities for IT decision makers in 2002 will be database software. Persistence's family of distributed data management products, including the company's PowerTier for C Application Server, EdgeXtend J2EE Server Plug-in, and Dynamai Web Accelerator will enable the IT community to meet their database needs by leveraging their existing hardware investments to more effectively distribute and manage data at greatly reduced costs.

The study conducted by Aberdeen Group's Technology Forecasting Consortium consisted of a survey of more than 150 technology executives across 14 industries and focused on 25 application categories, 11 technology infrastructure segments and hardware and professional services spending. The results of the survey demonstrated that the top five technology investment priorities for CIOs and other IT decision makers in 2002 will consist of security gateways and services, network and systems management applications, backup and recovery software, database software and application development tools.

"Database software will be an important focus for the IT community in 2002, as organizations struggle to find ways to cost-effectively provide employees, customers and partners with access to the important information they require in order to make critical business decisions," said Hugh Bishop, a senior vice president at Aberdeen Group. "The predominant theme of infrastructure investments that arose during the study conducted by our firm indicates that businesses will be focusing on doing more with what they have in 2002, and technology solutions like those offered by Persistence Software's family of distributed data management products will enable CIOs and IT managers to leverage existing hardware investments to extend new services and applications out to the edge of the enterprise."

With nearly 50 percent of respondents indicating that database software will be a primary focus for their organizations in the coming year, Persistence Software's distributed data management products offer a compelling value proposition to the IT community. Over the course of the past ten years, Persistence Software has established its reputation through its ability to help industry giants like Fed Ex, Salomon Smith Barney, JP Morgan and Instinet to overcome large-scale data management challenges and avoid extensive replication of data centers. Based on the company's patented Distributed Dynamic Caching Technology, The Persistence Software PowerTier for C Application Server, EdgeXtend J2EE Server Plug-in, and Dynamai Web Accelerator enable companies to extend applications and services out to the edge of their networks with limited infrastructure investments, while providing first-rate scalability, reliability and response. These solutions have been recently adopted by some of the world's largest business organizations, including i2 Technologies, The Korean Stock Exchange, Delphi Delco Automotive, and Cablevision.

"Shrinking IT budgets resulting from the recent decline in the economy, have forced organizations to find new ways to deliver increased productivity and value with fewer resources, and without additional capital equipment costs," said Ed Murrer, senior vice president of marketing for Persistence Software. "The study conducted by the Aberdeen Group reiterates the importance of database software in meeting these objectives and acknowledges the role that solutions like our distributed data management technologies will play in enabling companies to maximize existing IT applications and infrastructure to speed business transactions."

The full results of Aberdeen's investigation are available in the Technology Forecasting Consortium: 2002 User Buying Intentions report, which is priced at $US295.00.
