PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2002
PeopleSoft Inc. (Nasdaq:PSFT) today announced that it has purchased the intellectual property and certain assets of San Jose, Calif.-based Calico Commerce Inc. With this purchase, PeopleSoft will be the first enterprise applications provider to offer a comprehensive product configuration solution for both the sales and manufacturing processes.
PeopleSoft's new interactive selling solution is being designed so that users will be able to create real-time product configurations through an interactive process of needs analysis, recommendation, configuration, pricing, and quoting. PeopleSoft will combine Calico's scalable, best-of-breed product configurator with its industry-leading Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Supply Chain Management solutions. The combination of these solutions will enable customers to dramatically reduce the cost of designing and maintaining complex product configurations -- all within an integrated, enterprise applications environment.
The configuration technology utilizes an efficient guided-buying process. This process combines a customer's needs with customized product and pricing information. Integrating an interactive analysis of customer needs and product recommendation capabilities will enable companies to deliver greater sales productivity, higher revenues, and increased customer loyalty.
Calico has been the leader in solving large-scale configuration issues. Scalable configuration enables multiple users to design large-scale configurations simultaneously. This is an important benefit for industries such as communications, healthcare and high-tech manufacturing, where configurations for equipment and services are often complex.
"PeopleSoft's acquisition of Calico's products further demonstrates our strategy to deliver best-of-breed, pure internet solutions," said Ram Gupta, executive vice president, products and technology for PeopleSoft. "The solution will offer customers unmatched convenience, choice, and value. Controlling the key elements of the product configuration process through all phases of the customer lifecycle will improve order accuracy and shorten the sales cycle."
