RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 2002

Software AG, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Software AG, Europe's largest systems software provider and a pioneer in XML technologies, today announced that the Tamino XML Server won the 2001 InfoWorld Technology of the Year Award in the XML category.

Tamino is the first native XML server for Internet database management capable of storing XML documents natively, without transformation between other formats. It is recognized by the editors and analysts at the InfoWorld Test Center as the most outstanding implementation of XML technology during 2001.

"We are thrilled that InfoWorld recognized Software AG's pioneering leadership in the XML category and the improved performance the Tamino XML Server has on critical business integration initiatives in business and goverment enterprises," said Gary Voight, President and CEO, Software AG, Inc. "The award reinforces our commitment to providing our customers with world-class XML-based solutions."

Every year, the InfoWorld Test Center selects the top 10 technologies that made the biggest impact on enterprises and their IT strategy. In addition to XML, the editors and analysts also selected Web services, 802.11 wireless LANs, peer-to-peer, 64-bit systems, portals, CRM, network-attached storage, databases and handhelds. The group then votes on the products or services that demonstrate the best implementation of those technologies.

InfoWorld reviewed Tamino, calling it "one of the better options in the native XML database market," citing "Software AG scored points last year with the release of Tamino 3.1, an easy-to-use database that boasts slick schema editing, support for Enterprise JavaBeans and Java ServerPages, and an under-one-roof management console."

The Industry's Leading Native XML Server

Software AG announced Tamino 3.1, the newest version of the award-winning XML server.
