Aberdeen Research Indicates That Application Outsourcing
Provides Significant and Measurable Value
Extensis today announced that Preflight Online, the company's patent-pending online preflighting service, has been recognized as one of the most "highly successful ASP implementations" of 2000 and 2001 in a new research report from Aberdeen Group, a leading market analysis and positioning services firm.
The report, entitled "What Works: Ten Significant ASP Implementations," lists Extensis Preflight Online in its "ASP 2000/2001 Top Ten List" and describes the preflighting services as one of the "best examples of well-done ASP implementation" in the industry. The Extensis service was launched in 2000 and has already been adopted by many leading print service providers and publishers in the U.S. and Europe.
Other service providers recognized in the Aberdeen list are Appshop, Captura, Employease, ManagedOps, Qwest Cyber Solutions, Salesnet, Surebridge, Technology Solutions Corp., and TriZetto.
Focusing on the adoption of Preflight Online by AP AdSEND, the digital advertising delivery service of the Associated Press, the Aberdeen report concluded that the Extensis solution has already saved AdSEND money on capital expenditures, boosted the company's efficiency, and improved customer relationships. AdSEND uses the service to automatically check digital files for errors before they are submitted for printing.
"It would have been highly impractical for AdSEND to install and maintain many hundreds of instances of a software application, but an ASP solution solved the problem handily," the Aberdeen Group reports. By using Preflight Online "AdSEND was able to provide its clients a valuable service and to increase its own efficiency -- and to achieve these objectives without breaking the bank or hiring a battalion of Web specialists."
Using Preflight Online's groundbreaking subscription service, AdSEND has integrated a customized, Internet-based, preflighting solution directly into its existing workflow and website. Through this system, customers and agencies delivering digital ads to newspapers via AP AdSEND will have their documents automatically pre-checked for possible production problems, before the files even leave the client's desktop. AdSEND relies on Extensis to host and manage preflighting operations that will be used to inspect the approximately 1.5 million digital ads delivered by AdSEND each year. The Aberdeen report states, "As Extensis and AdSEND amply demonstrate, well-planned and well-executed change can lead to exemplary results."
"We're thrilled that industry experts like Aberdeen Group recognize that Preflight Online is not only a solid technology, but that it provides great value to our customers," said Joseph Schorr, product manager for Preflight Online. "This project was not about solving a product need for AdSEND, it was about solving a complex business challenge. By adding the ability to preflight files using an ASP-delivered service, we successfully developed and implemented an entirely new system, enabling a more efficient and cost effective process."

Since its introduction, Preflight Online has been adopted by a rapidly growing list of leading print and publishing companies in both Europe and the U.S., including Courier Corporation, the PRIMEDIA Consumer Media & Magazine Group, Cyngus Business Media, Continental Web Press, AP AdSEND, and many others.
