DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 2002
Sure Power Corporation, an ultra-high-availability power system provider, has joined some of the nation's leading corporations as a member in the Environmental Protection Agency's new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Partnership, a voluntary program designed to expand the use of combined heat and power technologies through industry and state and local partnerships.
Combined heat and power, or co-generation, is a clean and reliable alternative to conventional electricity generation because it utilizes the heat normally lost during power generation to provide residential and industrial heating and air conditioning to local areas around conventional power plants, according to the EPA.

The EPA's program, which was announced on October 15, 2001, features the involvement of numerous significant U.S. companies, including: Archer Daniels Midland, Dow Chemical, ExxonMobil, General Motors, International Paper, Texaco Power and Gasification International, U.S. Steel, Verizon Communications and Weyerhaeuser, along with several public-sector organizations that have endorsed the effort.
As an industry partner in the program, Sure Power Corporation, which supplies on site, primary power generation systems that deliver computer-grade electricity and round-the-clock cooling to energy-reliant businesses, will provide data and input to the CHP Partnership. The EPA, for its part, will provide public recognition of combined heat and power projects, while accelerating development of new projects through education, streamlined permitting and provision of technical tools and services.
"The EPA's commitment to helping the nation meet its growing demand for electricity, while minimizing the environmental impact of generation, is unprecedented," says Bill Cratty, chief technology officer and co-founder of Sure Power Corporation. "Involvement in the CHP Partnership allows us to contribute to projects that will lead to a cleaner future, while also enabling SurePower(R) system users to remain industry leaders in environmental protection."
