CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 17, 2002
Symantec (Nasdaq:SYMC) today announced that T-Online, one of Europe's largest Internet Service providers (ISP), will use its technology as part of a new Internet access subscription service that incorporates antivirus protection.
T-Online will market its new service, called T-Online Komfortpaket (Premium Service), to its subscriber base of more than 8 million people in Germany. Under the agreement, subscribers will be provided with a T-Online/Symantec branded full version Norton AntiVirus CD. Once installed, subscribers will receive automatic virus definition and detection engine updates for as long as they remain subscribed to the service.
By managing the distribution of virus definition and detection engine updates, T-Online will ensure its subscribers have safe and secure Internet access. T-Online will provide technical support and, for the duration of the agreement, subscribers will be sent new versions of Norton AntiVirus when they are launched.
Giuseppe Verrini, Symantec's vice president Europe, Middle East and Africa, added, "Consumers have every right to expect a clean and safe pipeline to the Internet. T-Online should be congratulated for meeting its customers' needs and working with Symantec to bring the reality of this version a step closer."
Symantec has similar agreements with other leading European ISPs including TeleNor in Norway, Tele Danmark in Denmark and Planet Internet, the largest paid-for ISP in The Netherlands.
Designed to maximize protection from viruses with minimal interruptions to users, Norton AntiVirus 2002 includes a wealth of features targeted at easing the end user experience. New features such as automatic virus detection and repair, automated virus definition updating, and incoming and outgoing e-mail scanning ensure that users remain protected against even the most recently discovered threats. In addition, the inclusion of script-blocking technology to detect fast-moving script-based viruses such as the I Love You and Anna Kournikova viruses ensure that these viruses are stopped before they can infect the user's system.
