TORRANCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 2002
Seiko Instruments USA Inc. Fiber Optics Group has expanded its line with a new series of fiber optic LC angled connectors designed specifically to meet the angled requirements for CATV and broadband applications.
The new angle design allows these applications to take advantage of the space saving economies previously only available with standard, non-angled LC connectors. Seiko Instruments is one of the first of Lucent's licensed manufacturers to bring to market the LCA compatible component and builds the complete units using a high-impact resistant, non-flammable UL rated 94 V-0 polymer.
The SLCA (angle physical contact) Connector Series features a precision polished zirconia pre-angle (eight degree) ferrule with a sub-assembly design, improving back reflection by approximately -70 dB. The new series, just half the size of standard fiber optic connectors, doubles the number of devices that can be installed on a single panel, offering significant cost savings for large system installations.
Color-coded for easy identification, the housing body comes standard in green to signify Angle PC applications. The series accommodates 2 mm, 1.6 mm, and 0.9 mm fiber types and is ideally suited for high-speed production polishing processes. Designed with a familiar phone jack RJ45 push-pull style housing and latching, the connectors snap easily into place with both blind mate and daughter-card formats.
The SLCA Connector Series is available with a complete offering of connectors, adapters, patchcords, and polishers, providing users a complete systems approach. Connector components are available for patch cords, jumper cables and behind the wall applications allowing installation in front of the panel or behind the wall as a patch cord or assembly. Other important features include an insertion loss rate as low as (less than)0.10 dB for single mode with improved transmission capabilities over existing standard connector types. The new series complies with EIA/TIA 568A, FOCIS 10, IEC 11801 and Telcordia specifications.
"The SLCA Connector Series allows CATV and broadband applications to take advantage of the miniature space saving economies previously unavailable to them, offering significant opportunities for reducing both product and installation costs," said Steve Baldo, General Manager for Seiko Fiber Optic Products Group.
Available immediately, the SLCA Connector Series is priced at $4.50 each in quantities of 10,000 pieces.
