Bombardier Recreational Products, through Bombardier-Rotax (TSE:BBD.A.) (TSE:BBD.B.), one of the world leaders in kart engines, announces that the Rotax Max World Finals 2002 are currently being held in Langkawi, Malaysia, and that the final race will be presented on Sunday, January 27, 2002.

Well known for its world-class automobile racing events and facilities, Malaysia is the first Asian country to host this karting event. "The selection of Malaysia to hold this worldwide event is further evidence of our company's commitment to participate in the economic success of this vibrant country," said Mr. Michel Baril, President and Chief Operating Officer of Bombardier Recreational Products.

Organized in cooperation with Malaysia's MOFAZ Motorsports, this event constitutes the high point of the worldwide Rotax Max Challenge circuit. It will attract teams from approximately 30 countries from all five continents and will bring together the best drivers to compete for the top honours.

To ensure fair competition, the engine used by all karters in the Rotax Max Challenge is the Rotax(R) FR 125 Max engine (FR 125 Junior for the Junior Max Challenge). No modifications are permitted.

A new age of karting with the innovative Direct Drive kart engine

At the Grand Finals, Bombardier-Rotax will introduce its newest innovation and an industry first, the patented chain-free Rotax Direct Drive kart engine. As opposed to other kart engines, the 125 Max DD2 engine is directly mounted on the rear axle of the kart, thereby eliminating the need for a chain, which is one of the most fundamental components of the current kart. This translates into clear customer benefits such as higher safety, enhanced user-friendliness and serviceability as well as much cleaner operation.

Bombardier Recreational Products designs, develops, builds, distributes and markets Ski-Doo(R) and Lynx(R) snowmobiles, snowgrooming equipment and multi-purpose tracked vehicles, Bombardier(R) all-terrain vehicles, Sea-Doo(R) watercraft and sport boats, Bombardier Fish Hawk(TM) fishing boats as well as the Evinrude(R) and Johnson(R) outboard marine engines and the Ficht Ram Injection(R) technology. Snowmobiles, ATVs, watercraft and some sport boats are powered by Rotax(R) engines that are designed and built by Bombardier-Rotax GmbH, which also builds motors for motorcycles, scooters, karts and aircraft.
