CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 28, 2002
NetManage, Inc. (Nasdaq:NETM), the expert in host access and integration solutions, today announced the availability of OnWeb(TM) 5.2, offering significant enhancements that improve the productivity of IT departments in publishing and integrating host data to the Web. Key new features include the industry's first integrated framework for both host publishing and host integration, screen filtering capabilities, and a plug-in for Microsoft FrontPage(R). NetManage continues to focus on product enhancements that enable mid-size and global 2000 enterprises to preserve their existing technology investments and mine new business value from legacy applications.
"The majority of corporations still rely on host systems as the lifeblood of their business, but cannot afford to spend precious IT resources or development time to re-write applications from scratch every time they need to provide a new Web service to customers," said Tyler McDaniel, director at the Hurwitz Group. "NetManage's OnWeb 5.2 is addressing the market need for a straightforward solution that can publish and integrate host data quickly and affordably."
OnWeb is a server-based, host integration solution that allows companies to quickly access and extend host information, applications and business processes to customers, partners and employees in the presentation format and device of their choice. Using a simple drag-and-drop environment, OnWeb allows the integration of legacy data into Web applications from an extensive range of data sources, including IBM mainframes; AS/400, UNIX, VT, Bull and Unisys systems; and major databases. Simple-to-use host publishing features enable companies to rapidly transform host screens into graphical Web pages with no programming. Companies can also integrate multiple data sources and powerful new business logic into a single user presentation.
OnWeb 5.2 Highlights
OnWeb 5.2 speeds IT productivity by creating sophisticated new Web pages from host data with no extra programming. OnWeb can now be used for both host integration and host publishing in the same product framework, enabling IT developers to re-use objects created in OnWeb for future applications and dramatically reducing application development time. A plug-in for Microsoft FrontPage enables developers to publish a host screen as a graphical Web page, complete with buttons or drop-down boxes, without having to write any host scripting code. Additionally, NetManage's Navigator, a powerful host navigation tool new to OnWeb, automatically generates script code for the OnWeb application in development, further eliminating the need for manual coding.
OnWeb 5.2 also includes powerful new features that provide a more efficient experience for the end-user. OnWeb now has screen filtering abilities, which allows developers to combine elements from multiple screens into a single Web page, or skip host screens altogether to improve the usability of the application and control what data the user sees. Finally, NetManage has added new management services to OnWeb. OnWeb Management Services allows an authenticated user to view both NetManage's RUMBA Web-to-Host and OnWeb host sessions from a single, personalized portal Web page. These authenticated users will be presented with a list of applications they are authorized to run, thus simplifying their usage of OnWeb. OnWeb Management Services will also manage OnWeb user accounts and passwords to allow for the association of a fully customized portal view for each OnWeb end-user.
"OnWeb 5.2 offers significant time and cost savings to companies that need to extend new information to new audiences quickly, as demonstrated by key new features that go unmatched by our competitors," said Zvi Alon, chairman, president and CEO of NetManage. "As the expert in host access and integration, NetManage continues to simplify and speed what used to be a complex and costly process of extending legacy applications to the Web."
Pricing
Pricing for OnWeb 5.2 depends on various configurations. Entry-level pricing starts at $16,000.
