LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 2002
SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) announced today that it will supply Motorola (NYSE:MOT) with SanDisk-branded Secure Digital (SD) Cards for the new Motorola MP3 player accessory for compatible Motorola mobile phones. The Motorola MP3 Player, which was recognized this week as a CES Innovations 2002 Design and Engineering Showcase honoree, is bundled with a 32 megabyte SanDisk SD card and plays MP3 files on stereo headphones.
The removable SanDisk postage stamp-size cards store MP3 files for high fidelity, near-CD quality music. The memory cards provide approximately 30 minutes of music for the consumer and the consumer will have the option of purchasing cards with additional memory for extended play. By integrating a slot for SD Cards, the Motorola MP3 player gains virtually unlimited memory expansion capabilities.
Chris Swambar, Product Manager, Motorola PCS Companion Products and Accessories Division said, "The Motorola MP3 Player is Motorola's latest introduction in the personal audio accessory area. This product is designed to give consumers the freedom to take their favorite digital music with them wherever they go. Working with SanDisk helped make this experience possible by providing consumers with the memory storage capacity and flexibility they need."
Bo Ericsson, vice president of OEM marketing at SanDisk, said, "We are excited that Motorola chose SanDisk for both its design expertise and SD cards for Motorola's latest offering in the digital audio accessory market. SD cards add a tremendous amount of functionality and versatility and are quickly becoming a universal storage solution for digital music, video and imaging."
SanDisk SD Cards will be available from Motorola and retail outlets where Motorola accessories are sold. They are also available at more than 38,000 retail outlets worldwide where SanDisk-branded flash cards are sold.
