The Summer Gets Hotter with The Red Hot Chili Peppers; Warner Bros. Records Turns It Up With Innovative Fan-based Program for `By The Way' In Stores July 9

In response to the overwhelming demand for "By The Way," the highly anticipated new album from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Warner Bros. Records has embarked on an innovative outreach to fans entitled, "A Song A Day," providing a special sneak peek at the band's new material prior to the album's release on July 9th.
"A Song A Day," which launched June 21st, allows millions of Chili Peppers fans to listen to a track a day from "By The Way" until the album hits stores on July 9th. "A Song A Day" has already garnered the participation of over 150 radio stations across the US, as well as such highly-visited web portals as MTV.com, VH1.com, Windowsmedia.com, Real Networks, Apple.com, MSN.com and Getmusic.com. Fans can also participate through such major retail websites as CDNOW, Best Buy, Fye.com, Wherehousemusic.com, Samgoody and Walmart.com, as well as over 300 fansites including redhotchilipeppers.com (http://redhotchilipeppers.com) and wbr.com (http://wbr.com). The player is hosted on sites worldwide with ten local language translations. "A Song A Day" is also available on fans' cell phones and 2 way pagers through a wireless channel hosted by upoc.com (http://rhcp.upoc.com).
The "A Song A Day" countdown is also part of AOL's Artist of the Month program. At its conclusion, AOL users will be able to listen to the entire album for a week. Red Hot Chili Peppers Artist of the Month also includes an exclusive interview and performance, a contest for a trip to see the band live in Japan, video retrospective, plus the opportunity to purchase an MP3 of the album's first single, "By The Way," for under a buck (AOL KEYWORD: RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS). "By The Way" is currently #1 at Modern Rock radio.
Since their Warner Bros. Records debut in 1991 the Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold in excess of 26 million records worldwide, making them one of the best selling rock bands in music history. Among their hit albums are "Blood Sugar Sex Magik," "One Hot Minute" and "Californication," which has gone on to sell over 13 million copies since its release in 1999. "By The Way" is the quartet's follow up to "Californication," and was produced by Rick Rubin (The Beastie Boys, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash). The Chili Peppers will begin the international leg of their "By The Way" tour on July 25 in Seoul, Korea, followed by dates in Canada (August), Latin America (September) and Japan (November).
