Emulex HBAs Provide Superior Functionality and Features for EMC
Information Storage Solutions
Emulex Corp. (NYSE:ELX), the world's leading supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), today announced that EMC Corp. (NYSE:EMC), has qualified the Emulex LightPulse LP9002C 2Gb/s CompactPCI Fibre Channel HBA for use with its CLARiiON Enterprise Storage systems running Solaris and EMC Connectrix Fibre Channel directors and switches.
The Emulex LP9002C cPCI host bus adapter has also been previously qualified as E-Lab Tested with EMC Symmetrix information storage systems.
"EMC's E-Lab Tested qualification process is a series of exhaustive functionality and reliability tests to ensure the interoperability of all components that make up a multi-vendor information storage network," said Chuck Hollis, vice president of markets and products at EMC.
"E-Lab Tested assures customers that Emulex HBAs are fully interoperable with EMC information storage systems, enabling the reliable and cost-effective deployment of heterogeneous storage networks."
Emulex HBAs offer a firmware-based architecture, which helps to lower the customer's total cost of ownership and reduce management complexity. The LP9002C provides support for 2Gb/s Fibre Channel data rates and features an automatic speed negotiation capability which ensures complete compatibility with existing 1Gb/s Fibre Channel storage area networks (SANs), and allows seamless upgrades to higher speed 2Gb/s SANs.
"The CLARiiON enterprise storage product line provides high performance, high quality storage solutions that deliver data integrity and tools for simplified, powerful management," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing at Emulex.
"Emulex places the same high-level performance demands on its connectivity solutions, which further enhances the value of our HBAs in CLARiiON-based SANs."
EMC's CLARiiON Enterprise Storage systems offer superior performance, reliability and manageability. CLARiiON provides market-leading support for multi-vendor operating systems, servers, backup software and systems with advanced information protection and sharing. Delivering up to 22 terabytes of storage capacity, CLARiiON enables information consolidation for highly distributed environments.
The Emulex Family of Host Bus Adapters
The Emulex family of HBAs offers high performance, standards-based connectivity solutions for both Fibre Channel and Internet protocol (IP) storage networking environments. Emulex host bus adapters provide a unique combination of features required for mission-critical enterprise environments that deliver reliability, high bandwidth, server CPU offload, low latency and scalable connectivity.
Emulex HBAs also offer a unique driver architecture that enables compatibility of a single operating system driver across Emulex's entire product line and a firmware-based architecture. These features help to lower the customer's total cost of ownership and reduce management complexity, while enabling a seamless migration path to next-generation technologies.

Emulex LightPulse family of Fibre Channel HBAs offers full fabric support, high data integrity, full-duplex operation, data buffering for up to 100km of cabling and support for all Fibre Channel topologies.
The Emulex LightPulse family of Fibre Channel products includes the 2Gb/s LP9802 and LP982 PCI-X HBAs, the LP9002L and LP952L PCI HBAs, the LP9002C CompactPCI HBA, the LP9002S SBus-based HBA and the market-leading LP8000.
The Emulex family of IP-based storage networking host bus adapters includes the GN9000/SI iSCSI host bus adapter and the GN9000/VI VI/IP host bus adapter. The Emulex GN9000/SI is designed to provide the high-performance iSCSI connectivity over gigabit Ethernet for PCI-based systems.
The Emulex GN9000/VI VI/IP HBA enables network attached storage (NAS) appliances and hosts to exchange file system data over IP networks, while gaining the high throughput, low latency and reduced CPU overhead benefits of the virtual interface (VI) architecture.
