ATG Strengthens Board of Directors; Appoints Paul Shorthose as Chairman; Adds Rob Held and Mary Makela Enhancing Company with Operational, Sales and Marketing Expertise

ATG (Art Technology Group, Inc., Nasdaq: ARTG), a leading developer of online CRM applications for commerce, portals, and relationship management, today announced that it has appointed Paul Shorthose to the position of chairman of its Board of Directors in addition to remaining president and CEO of ATG. Former co-chairmen Jeet Singh and Joe Chung will remain directors and chief strategy officer and chief technology officer respectively. In addition, veteran executives Rob Held and Mary Makela have been added to the company's board of directors. Both Held and Makela each bring more than 30 years of management experience to the ATG Board, and with their appointments expand the ATG board to nine members.

The combined expertise of Held and Makela, both of whom have served as CEOs during their respective careers, spans a broad range of management arenas. Held brings a wealth of operational experience both domestically and internationally, while Makela has a solid record of success in the areas of sales, marketing, and business alliances.

Held brings a strong executive background that includes tenure as president and CEO of Mass.-based Chipcom Corporation. During his time at Chipcom, Held guided the company through seven years of 70 percent annual growth, taking it from annual revenues of $6.7 million to $268 million. Under Held's leadership, Chipcom went public in 1991 and eventually grew its value to a $900 million market cap. Prior to his time at Chipcom, Held served in a variety of different management positions over a 14-year period at Genrad Inc.
Makela brings to the ATG board the experience of a long career in the fields of sales, marketing and alliances. Following a 17-year tenure at IBM, she became president of Cognos Corporation, where she was responsible for the company's $40 million U.S. operation. From Cognos, Makela went on to head up North American sales at Computer Corporation of America. She then took over as CEO and president of IMC Systems Group Inc., an integrated software and services vendor, where she was brought in to strategically reposition the company and its products. Makela currently serves as president of MEM Associates, a consultancy that provides strategic support to high-level executives on a range of business, marketing and sales issues.
Held and Makela join a board that consists of Shorthose; Jeet Singh, chief strategy officer, ATG; Joe Chung, chief technology officer, ATG; Scott A. Jones, CEO and chairman, Escient Inc.; Thomas N. Matlack, managing partner, Megunticook Management LLC; Phyllis Swersky, president, The Meltech Group; and Ilene H. Lang, venture partner, First Light Capital.
