Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU)

With 40 Percent Market Share, Lucent is Leader in IP Management

Software Space for Third Consecutive Year

Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced that its VitalQIP(TM) software solution is again ranked as having the number one market share in the Internet Protocol (IP) address management market space for the third consecutive year in the IDC analyst report, Worldwide Network Configuration Management Forecast and Analysis, 2002-2006.

The IDC report also presents a five-year forecast of the network configuration management market, which includes the functional segments of network element management systems, network design and simulation and IP address management. It also includes the top five to 10 vendors in each segment, with complete comparison of changes over the past year.

According to IDC, "With 40 percent market share, VitalQIP(TM) software continues to lead the market space because of its ability to address enterprise and service provider needs, such as best-in-class network productivity, increased scaleability and encrypted software security. Lucent remained atop the IP address management market by avoiding some of the turbulence its competitors experienced in 2001."

IDC said that the IP address management market will increase around 40 percent from 2001 to 2006, at an annual growth rate of 20.7 percent and calls it "the most resilient network configuration management segment." It cites the following reasons for the growth:

- The need to reconcile unchecked growth in IP addresses in the enterprise and service provider markets;

- Integration with security protocols and access infrastructures, such as Kerberos, an encryption protocol, and RADIUS, which brings IP address management into the growing realm of security management;

- The need for sophisticated enterprises to enhance the basic domain name server (DNS) management of Windows 2000;

- Deployment of enhanced broadband services requiring several IP addresses per customer, leading to a boom in IP address demand and management complexity.

"Service providers demand a greater number of IP addresses to support bundled services and QoS, and provide IP address management to enterprises as a service," said Paul Bugala, senior analyst at IDC. "Lucent is well positioned to address these service provider needs."

"We are pleased that IDC continues to recognize VitalQIP(TM) as the market leading IP Management software solution," said Madan Kumar, vice president of the Network Operations Software Group in Lucent Technologies. "Our clients require reliable, scalable IP Management for their mission critical voice and data applications. VitalQIP(TM) provides the full functionality and reliability IT professionals demand to provide worry-free IP services."
