SANTA CLARA, Calif. & MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 2002
Metavante Corporation, a leading provider of financial technology and e-Finance solutions for over 5,100 financial institutions, has selected Norstan Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:NRRD) to design and install a conferencing solution using MeetingPlace for real-time collaboration. MeetingPlace is manufactured by Latitude Communications (Nasdaq:LATD), the leading provider of integrated voice and web conferencing solutions.
Metavante has 4,000 employees at 15 centers of expertise throughout North America. To cut information systems (IS) costs and improve business efficiencies, Norstan, a MeetingPlace reseller and voice and data solution integrator, recommended the MeetingPlace solution. With a large employee base and significant company sites, Metavante employs conferencing as a common business practice, holding an average of 2,300 sessions per month.
The voice conferencing solution has significant benefit across Metavante's workforce. For example, Metavante managers use the solution for monthly meetings. MeetingPlace's integration with Lotus Notes provides Metavante employees the flexibility to schedule and attend sessions directly from their calendars. Also, the solution's reporting features allow the IS department to efficiently allocate costs to appropriate departments.
"The Notes integration really sold us. I'm looking forward to the efficiency that we'll realize from accessing meetings directly from our Notes application," said Brian Hurdis, senior vice president and chief information officer at Metavante.
MeetingPlace provides multiple levels of security for the company, including meeting I.D. numbers, passwords, announcements of attendees and meeting "locks." Also, the company deployed the equipment onsite on its own network to maximize security and cost-effectiveness. MeetingPlace is available as customer premises-based systems and as an outsourced service.
"MeetingPlace leverages existing infrastructures and groupware applications, making it an ideal choice for Metavante, which has offices throughout the country and makes frequent acquisitions," said Larry J. Schmidt, executive vice president of Norstan's Direct Solutions. "We are delighted that such a well-respected firm relies on Norstan for its conferencing needs."
"Naturally, we're pleased that this premier financial technology company was able to tap into Norstan's technology savvy and excellent service, and recognizes the cost-efficiency, security and productivity that its employees can gain by collaborating on MeetingPlace," said Rick McConnell, president and chief operating officer at Latitude.
MeetingPlace allows enterprises to deploy advanced IP communications systems at their own pace, enabling them to migrate their conferencing from PSTN lines to a mix of PSTN and IP, and ultimately, pure IP.
