Sterling Designs, Inc. Adopts Bush Administration's ``Homebuyer's Bill of Rights'' Before Bill Passes Through Congress
Business Wire, July 3, 2002
Business Editors
Sterling Designs, Inc., announced today that the company will adopt the Bush Administration's "Homebuyer's Bill of Rights" as well as other initiatives offered by President Bush prior to the proposals being passed through Congress.
"We believe the Homebuyer's Bill of Rights proposal as well as the other new housing initiatives offered by President Bush and HUD Secretary Mel Martinez are a step in the right direction for the housing industry," said Sterling Designs, Inc. President and CEO Michael VanHuss. "Even if the bill does not pass through Congress, we will uphold the principles as corporate policy as much as current laws will allow."
Mr. VanHuss further commented, "It has always been Sterling's goal to provide value to our customers. Reducing soft costs related to the purchase of a home will make homeownership more affordable, thereby more readily available to many families in the United States."
Other new housing initiatives offered by the Bush Administration include the American Dream Down Payment Fund, aimed at helping 40,000 families each year with down payment cost, a tax credit for builders of single-family homes, and a housing counseling program to help families through the home buying process and to educate them against unscrupulous lenders.
