VIENNA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2002
Convera (Nasdaq:CNVR), a leading provider of search, retrieval and categorization software, today announced that Unisys (NYSE:UIS) has selected Convera's intelligent search solutions for its public Internet web site and its intranet knowledge portal.
The recently relaunched Unisys.com Web site now uses Convera's RetrievalWare(R) to provide greater ease of use and to allow users to more quickly and accurately retrieve relevant information.
Improvements include the addition of advanced search options, enabling users to further refine their queries by performing concept-based, fuzzy or Boolean searches. Users also can restrict their searches to specific sections of the 6,000 pages site, including such categories as Unisys products, services and "news and events."
In coming months, Unisys will expand upon the site by taking greater advantage of RetrievalWare's multimedia and multilingual capabilities. Unisys plans on increasing the availability of video, audio and image files on the site, using RetrievalWare to simultaneously search and organize multiple data types.
RetrievalWare also will be deployed on Unisys Web sites in some 30 countries, enabling users around the world to conduct searches for information in their native language. Unisys plans on making its site available in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and other languages, utilizing RetrievalWare's support for more than 20 languages.
RetrievalWare also has been deployed as the search, retrieval and categorization engine on the Unisys intranet knowledge portal. This enterprise-wide deployment, currently in use by 8,000 employees, enables users to more quickly and effectively search across all portal content.
Upcoming plans include spidering every Unisys intranet site throughout the world to make them available for search. The portal continues to grow and by year-end will be expanded to support over 30,000 worldwide employees. The portal initiative was deployed in partnership with Netegrity.
"After an extensive review of vendors, we determined that RetrievalWare had all of the capabilities we were looking for," said David Wright, director Web Programs, Unisys Corporation. "RetrievalWare provides visitors to our Web site and our employees with more precise search results, better prioritization and advanced search options. In addition, we enjoy working with a single vendor that is capable of addressing our multimedia, security, scalability and language requirements."
