International Three-day Symposium At Stanford in August Features
Networking Ideas for the Internet
Networking designers from around the world will converge on Silicon Valley next month for "Hot Interconnects 10, A Symposium on High Performance Interconnects," Aug.21-23 at Stanford University, which is co-chaired by two Santa Clara University professors.
Over the years, SCU faculty and students have played a leading role in this symposium. This year, computer engineering professors Silvia Figueira and Peter Dommel are general co-chairs for the conference and Daniel Pitt, new dean of SCU's School of Engineering, is on the "Hot Interconnects" steering committee.
SCU computer engineering students will work as volunteers at the event. "Hot Interconnects 10" is an international conference that brings together designers and architects of high-performance chips, software, and systems at the university and global business levels. Presentations will focus on up-to-the-minute developments in network interconnection, demonstrating leading-edge designs by engineers and researchers throughout the world. Three days of tutorials and technical sessions for an estimated audience of 200 will feature the latest developments in industry and academic laboratories.
"To keep up with the increasing Internet demand, networking people have been working to provide users with a better Internet experience, which translates into faster connections and more bandwidth, said Silvia Figueira, co-chair of Hot Interconnects. "This conference deals with these important issues."
One of the event keynotes will be Vint Cerf, often referred to as "The Father of the Internet." He is an Internet pioneer involved in the early design the ARPANET and a co-author of TCP/IP. University of California at Berkeley Professor Eric Brewer, co-founder and chief scientist for Inktomi will also be a keynote for the event.
The panel discussion, "Wireless Wars: Wi-Fi vs. GPRS vs. 3G," will be lead by Dave Liddle, General Partner at U.S. Venture Partners. Liddle is the former president and CEO of Interval Research Corporation, a Silicon Valley-based laboratory and incubator for new businesses focused on broadband applications and advanced technologies. He was also founder of Metaphor Computer Systems in 1982 serving as president and CEO.
Hot Interconnects started approximately 10 years ago. It derived from the Hot Chips Symposium, which is Hot Interconnects hardware counterpart. The event is sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a global technical professional society serving the public interest and members in electrical, electronics, computer, information & other technologies.
Advance registration closes at 5 p.m. on July 30. Registration and conference information is on line at http://www.hoti.ORG/.
