LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 2002
AOL Time Warner (NYSE:AOL)
Alliance Aims to Make the Internet a Central Medium for
Charitable Donations
CAF (Charities Aid Foundation), the AOL Time Warner Foundation and AOL UK today announced that they have formed a strategic alliance to develop a major new destination for online giving in the UK.
The portal is set to go live in July 2002 and aims to boost online donations in the UK by directly connecting charities with the public.
Charities of any size, regardless of whether they already have a Web presence, will be able to publish their news and collect donations online easily and quickly using the new portal. It builds on the success of the largest giving portal worldwide, NetworkforGood.org -- co-founded by the AOL Time Warner Foundation and based on the Foundation's former Helping.org -- and allaboutgiving.org, developed by CAF as the UK's leading site for tax-effective giving.
This strategic international alliance will enable all UK registered charities to raise awareness of their organizations and attract online gifts using simple and effective e-fundraising tools.
CAF brings with it expertise on all aspects of global philanthropy, while the AOL Time Warner Foundation offers extensive knowledge of online giving, and AOL UK has direct relationships with more than 1.7 million online consumers in the UK. This wealth of expertise will combine to create an indispensable tool for charities to reach a large community of potential online donors.
AOL UK, the UK's leading interactive services company, is providing extensive support for the development of the portal and is working closely with CAF to ensure it is comprehensive and easy-to-use. This new alliance brings the AOL Time Warner Foundation's commitment to online giving to the UK for the first time and is one of their biggest international projects to date.
According to CAF's Head of New Media, Sarah Hughes: "This alliance represents the most significant opportunity yet for charities to engage and retain the support of exciting new audiences online."
Kathy Bushkin, Senior Vice President, AOL Time Warner and President, AOL Time Warner Foundation, says: "We have seen a dramatic increase in online giving in the US and we are proud of the pioneering work the AOL Time Warner Foundation has done to help make NetworkforGood.org the most successful online giving portal in the world. As our efforts in the UK continue to grow, we are particularly delighted to be working with CAF and AOL UK to offer charities and donors a unique online giving destination in the UK."
AOL UK's Head of Corporate Responsibility, Katrina Giles, comments: "This is an important alliance which will help to bring UK registered charities and the public together online. Many charities have already embraced the Internet but the development of this new portal means that even those who do not have their own Website can take advantage of the online medium as a fundraising platform and a way to raise awareness of their cause. It will be our recommended destination for online giving for AOL members."
